Fox Chase Cancer Center and Lincoln University, an historic black university in Chester County, have formed a partnership for cancer research and training.
This project, known as a MinorityInstitution/ Cancer Center Partnership, was recently awarded a four-year P20 feasibility grant by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Cancer health disparities pose a significant problem in medical care: The cancer death rate is 1.4 and 1.2 times higher in African-American males and females, respectively, compared to Caucasians. This partnership is an important component in strengthening Fox Chase's commitment to diversity and healthcare disparity research.
Lincoln University demonstrates a long-standing history of preparing students for leadership roles. Noted Lincoln alumni include U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, poet Langston Hughes and educator Melvin B. Tolson, portrayed by Denzel Washington in the 2007 film "The Great Debaters."

Lincoln Day, November 7, 2008: To introduce Lincoln students and faculty to the Fox Chase community and to familiarize them with the research projects conducted at Fox Chase in order to assist in the choice of a summer research lab for 2009.
