About Wallace Young

One of Fox Chase Cancer Center's most beloved employees, Wallace Young worked at the Center for 23 years. He served as director of materials management and, later, as director of community outreach. His warm smile and special connection with people endeared him to many.

Dedicated to Helping the Community

An advocate for cancer awareness, Young worked tirelessly to educate people, especially African-Americans, about cancer risks, prevention and early detection. He brought his message to churches, recreation centers and civic organizations, stressing the importance of health check-ups and cancer screening. Young played a key role in forming important relationships between Fox Chase Cancer Center and area churches, schools and other groups to promote cancer education, prevention, detection and treatment.

Benefiting Community Outreach

In June 2007, Young passed away unexpectedly from a brain aneurysm. Given his passion for helping the community, it is fitting that the Wallace E. Young Memorial Golf Outing help others carry on his important work. Proceeds will go to community outreach activities at Fox Chase Cancer Center through the Wallace E. Young Community Outreach Fund.
