Treatment at Fox Chase Cancer Center
- Fox Chase Cancer Center, located in Philadelphia, maintains 100 licensed inpatient beds.
- Special multidisciplinary treatment centers provide consultations and treatment recommendations for specific types of cancer.
- State-of-the-art surgical facilities and services include five operating rooms, same-day surgery unit, short-procedure and endoscopy unit, laser surgery and cryosurgery technology, CT-guided biopsy and stereotactic breast-biopsy technology, full anesthesiology capabilities, postanesthesia-care unit and an eight-bed intensive-care unit.
- The special clinical-studies wing includes a 10-bed special-care unit for patients participating in phase I clinical trials. The unit is dedicated to clinical research into new cancer treatments such as developmental chemotherapy and studies of drug resistance.
- The nursing staff of specially trained oncology nurses provides one of the best nurse-to-patient ratios in the area. Fox Chase Cancer Center is also the first hospital in Pennsylvania and the nation's first cancer center to earn the Magnet Award for Nursing Excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
- Complete radiation oncology services include CT/MRI simulated three-dimensional treatment planning and low-dose-rate and high-dose-rate implants (brachytherapy). The department uses four state-of-the-art linear accelerators for radiation treatment and three treatment planning simulators (traditional, CT scan and MRI).
- Diagnostic imaging services include fluoroscopy, CT, chest, nuclear medicine, MRI, ultrasound, mammography and stereotactic breast biopsy. Review and consultation services are available at Fox Chase for films submitted by outside physicians.
- The magnetic resonance imaging facility has two units, capable of performing high-quality clinical studies in all areas as well as research applications. Services also include magnetic resonance angiography and magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
