Fox Chase Cancer Center Is Tops in Cancer Care in SE Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware According to U.S. News & World Report's "Best Hospitals" List for 2005
PHILADELPHIA (July 8, 2005) - For 11 consecutive years, U.S. News &World Report has ranked Fox Chase Cancer Center among the top cancer centers in the nation. On its "America's Best Hospitals" list for 2005 released today, Fox Chase is the top ranked cancer center in southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey and is ranked 15th in the U.S. The rankings appear in the July 18, 2005 issue of U.S. News & World Report, which hits newsstands on July 11.
"Again this year, U.S. News & World Report recognized the importance of nursing care in cancer recovery by awarding points for centers that have 'Magnet' status," said Robert C. Young, MD, president of Fox Chase Cancer Center. The Magnet Nursing Services Recognition Award recognizes hospitals with outstanding nursing care. The American Nurses Credentialing Center first bestowed Magnet status on Fox Chase in 2000, making it the first hospital in Pennsylvania and the first cancer specialty hospital in the nation to receive this designation.
"Outstanding nursing care has a dramatic impact on recovery," Young continued. "Recent studies show that the mortality rate is lower in Magnet hospitals, meaning more people recover from serious illnesses when they receive their care at a Magnet hospital. We are pleased that U.S. News recognizes the critical role nurses play in patient care."
U.S. News & World Report lists the top 50 institutions in the country within different specialties based on an index that indicates the overall quality of patient care. The ranking procedure scrutinizes over 6,000 hospitals. For more information about the rankings, log on to www.usnews.com.
