U.S. News and World Report Ranks Fox Chase Among Best in the Nation
Philadelphia (July 29, 2011) – Fox Chase Cancer Center has once again been ranked among the leading cancer centers in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual “Best Hospitals” listing. The Center is ranked 38th overall this year and is the highest rated specialty hospital in the Philadelphia region. The rankings—which cover 16 medical specialties and 94 metro areas—have been annually published by U.S. News & World Report for the past 22 years and will also be featured in the U.S. News Best Hospitals guidebook, which will be available August 30.
“We are proud that Fox Chase is once again recognized as one of the nation’s leading cancer centers and included in this prestigious annual ranking,” says Michael V. Seiden, MD, PhD, president and CEO of Fox Chase Cancer Center. “Our Center has been evolving rapidly in recent years, with top new scientific and clinical faculty joining the team and new programs and initiatives coming online. We are confident this growth will help us become an even stronger cancer center in the future.”
The latest rankings showcase 720 hospitals out of about 5,000 hospitals nationwide. Each is ranked among the country’s top hospitals in at least one medical specialty and/or ranked among the best hospitals in its metro area. Hard numbers stand behind the rankings in most specialties—death rates, patient safety, procedure volume, and other objective data. Responses to a national survey, in which physicians were asked to name hospitals they consider best in their specialty for the toughest cases, are also were factored in.
