Modifying EndNote to include the PubMed Central ID (PMCID) for NIH Public Access Policy
- In order to import references from PubMed with the PMCID number, you need to
modify the reference type in EndNote Preferences, the Import Filter, and the Output Style.- Instructions and updated EndNote content files
Using the National Institute of Health Manuscript Submission ID (NIHMSID)
After submitting a manuscript to the NIH, the Manuscript Submission System (NIHMS) will generate an initial ID number: the National Institutes of Health Manuscript Submission ID. This number should be used if the PMCID number is not available when creating references. It will have to be added into the style and reference type , as EndNote does not have a NIHMSID field. The PMCID number, when available, is preferred.
Example: Cerrato A, Parisi M, Santa Anna S, Missirlis F, Guru S, Agarwal S, Sturgill D, Talbot T, Spiegel A, Collins F, Chandrasekharappa S, Marx S, Oliver B. Genetic interactions between Drosophila melanogaster menin and Jun/Fos. Dev Biol. 2006 Oct 1; 298(1): 59-70. NIHMSID: NIHMS44135 or
