"Paws for the Cause" Dog Walk To Benefit Fox Chase Cancer Center
Mayor Rendell, "First Dog" Mandy, Dallas the Chairdog and Fox 29's George Mallet Host WalkPHILADELPHIA (September 20, 1999) -- Grab your pooch and sign up for the first annual "Paws for the Cause" dog walk on Sunday, October 17th (rain or shine) to raise money for Fox Chase Cancer Center.� Registration for pets and their owners begins at 8 a.m. at Fox Chase, 7701 Burholme Ave., Northeast Philadelphia.� The fun gets underway at 9 a.m. with a dog/owner look-alike contest judged by FOX 29 anchor and dog-lover George Mallet.� The two-mile walk begins at 9:20 a.m.� Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell and "First Dog" Mandy will join in the morning's activities.� Dallas, a certified pet therapist at Fox Chase, is the chairdog for the walk.
The registration fee is $10 per person and pledges are encouraged.� For pre-registration forms or for information, call 215-728-3024.� Philadelphia 7-11 stores will provide snacks and water.
Fox Chase Cancer Center is one of 36 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the nation.� Fox Chase activities include basic and clinical research; prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer; and community outreach programs.
