Bilingual Outreach Specialist Joins Fox Chase Cancer Center to Help Latino Communities

PHILADELPHIA (February 25, 1999) -- Evelyn Gonz�lez of Bristol, Pa., joins the Cancer Information Service (CIS) at Fox Chase Cancer Center as a bilingual outreach specialist to focus on sharing cancer information in Latino communities.� She brings with her 18 years of public health experience and has worked with the Latino communities of Philadelphia, New York, Connecticut and Puerto Rico.� Gonz�lez will continue to focus on the Latino needs of communities throughout the state of Pennsylvania and work closely with agencies and/or organizations servicing these communities.

In addition to her outreach goals, Gonz�lez will be able to help organizations interested in developing cancer-related programs for the Latino community.� She can provide technical support in the area of program development, implementation and evaluation.� Organization leaders interested in starting a cancer-related program should contact Gonz�lez at 215-728-3110 x7404.

The CIS also provides a 1-800-4-CANCER toll-free telephone service that provides the general public and health professionals with up-to-date, accurate information regarding cancer prevention, treatments and resources.� Spanish-speaking information specialists are available.

Fox Chase Cancer Center is one of 35 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the nation.� The Center's activities include basic and clinical research; prevention, detection and treatment of cancer; and community outreach programs.
