PHILADELPHIA (September 30, 1999) -- Amateur cyclists from across the Delaware Valley, including Philadelphia Police Commissioner John Timoney, will pedal their way to greater cancer prevention awareness on Sunday, October 3 as Fox Chase Cancer Center and Stazi Milano host their 10th annual "Pedal for Prevention."� The non-competitive town and country bike ride through the Fox Chase and adjacent Montgomery County area benefits the new Research Institute for Cancer Prevention at Fox Chase Cancer Center, to be dedicated January 1, 2000.

Steven H. Seeholzer, Ph.D. of Abington, Pa., a staff scientist at Fox Chase Cancer Center, will arrive in Philadelphia to participate in the bike ride after a six day bike trip across Pennsylvania to promote greater awareness for cancer prevention and research.

This year's festivities will also include a walk-a-thon, "Pedaling Is Not For Me," for those who feel more comfortable on their feet.

All participants will be treated to morning refreshments, a warm-up stretching session, T-shirts and a special celebration feast at Jenkintown's Stazi Milano Restaurant.� The top fundraisers will win great prizes.

Check-in is at 8 a.m. for the bike ride and 9:30 a.m. for the walk-a-thon at Fox Chase Cancer Center, 7701 Burholme Ave., Northeast Philadelphia.

Fox Chase Cancer Center is one of 36 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the nation.� Fox Chase activities include basic and clinical research; prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer; and community outreach programs.
