Fox Chase Cancer Center Offers Program for Children of Cancer Patients

PHILADELPHIA (September 13, 2000) -- Fox Chase Cancer Center's Social Work Services department is offering "Kids' Night Out", an activity and support group for school-age children, age six and older, who have a parent with cancer. This six-week program begins on October 10 and meets every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

"Kids' Night Out" provides an opportunity for children to express their feelings and worries through games, storytelling and art activities. Participation also gives them the chance to meet other children who have similar concerns and to learn more about cancer.

The companion program, "Parents' Night Out", meets at the same time and provides parents who are dealing with a cancer diagnosis the opportunity to discuss issues concerning their children and their illness.

The program is open to the public. For more information, please call Fox Chase's Social Work Services department at 215-728-2668.

Fox Chase Cancer Center, one of the nation's first comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute in 1974, conducts basic and clinical research; programs of prevention, detection and treatment of cancer; and community outreach.
