Fox Chase Cancer Center Nurses Receive Top National Honors

PHILADELPHIA (September 18, 2000) -- Fox Chase Cancer Center has become the first hospital in Pennsylvania and the first cancer specialty hospital in the nation to receive the American Nurses Association's (ANA) highest level of recognition for outstanding nursing. The Center will honor its nurses at a special tea on Wednesday, September 27 at 3:30 p.m. in the Fox Chase cafeteria.

The Magnet Nursing Services Recognition Award, bestowed by the ANA, nationally recognizes excellence in: the management philosophy and practices of nursing services; patient care; leadership of the chief nurse executive in supporting professional practice and continued competence of nursing staff; and attention to the cultural and ethnic diversity of patients, their families, and healthcare providers.

Linda D. Urden, DNSc, RN, CAN, Chair of the Commission on the Magnet Recognition Program of the American Nurses Credentialing Center, will present the award to Fox Chase. Other speakers include Robert C. Young, president of Fox Chase Cancer Center and Joanne Hambleton, RN, MSN, CAN, Director of Nursing and Patient Services at Fox Chase.

The Magnet recognition status is valid for a four-year period, after which Fox Chase must reapply.
