CWA Local 13,000 Raises $11,000 For Research at Fox Chase Cancer Center; Total Donation For Ten Years Tops $83,500
PHILADELPHIA (August 30, 2001)--Members and friends of the Communications Workers of America Local 13,000 presented a check for $11,000 to Fox Chase Cancer Center for cancer research and patient care.The money was raised primarily from proceeds of the 10th Annual CWA Jim Willer Golf Tournament held annually at the Juniata Golf Course in Northeast Philadelphia.Willer, of the Mayfair section of Philadelphia, was executive vice president of CWA Local 13,000 before dying of prostate cancer in 1991 at the age of 47. Each year, nearly 200,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and 31,500 men die of the disease.
CWA secretary-treasurer Patricia A. Maisano presented a check for $11,000 to Fox Chase director of special events, Michael Casey. CWA has raised more than $83,500 over ten years for Fox Chase.
