Jolley Receives Regional Scholarship from the Cancer Information Service

PHILADELPHIA (September 6, 2001) -- Lori Jolley, of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., has been awarded the Cancer Information Service (CIS) Regional Scholarship Award for the Atlantic Region. As the recipient of this award she will attend the Cancer Information Service 25th Anniversary Meeting in Seattle this October.

Jolley is a cancer education specialist with the CIS located on the campus at Fox Chase Cancer Center. The Cancer Information Service is a program of the National Cancer Institute providing the latest, most accurate information about cancer to patients, their families, and the public.

Jolley has been a cancer education specialist with the CIS since July 1998. As resource coordinator, Jolley is responsible for the timely updating of resources used by staff as well as being cluster moderator for the new State Resource Referral Page. She is also the CIS representative to the Patient Education Committee at Fox Chase. Currently, Jolley is coordinating the review and revision of a smoking publication for the National Cancer Institute and involved in the ongoing editing of the CIS Regional webpage.

"Lori demonstrates a high level of skill in her position, shows great initiative and is always ready to assist a colleague," said Linda Fleisher, (MPH) director of the Cancer Information Service. "Lori was selected to win this award by her peers. She has the respect of the staff and has demonstrated leadership ability."

Jolley also acts as a shift leader to assist staff with locating resources and dealing with more challenging callers when the supervisors are not available. This is all accomplished in addition to Jolley's primary responsibility of responding to callers who phone the CIS.

"Lori is an outstanding employee who exemplifies the CIS spirit of caring and commitment as demonstrated by her knowledge of the Program and caring manner with the callers, willingness to always help other staff and professionalism in all aspects of her work," Fleisher added.
