Fox Chase Cancer Center Risk Assessment Counselor Awarded an American Cancer Society Scholarship
PHILADELPHIA (April 16, 2003) — Carol Cherry, RN, BSN, OCN, of Berwyn, a counselor with the Margaret Dyson Family Risk Assessment Program (FRAP) at Fox Chase Cancer Center has been awarded a $20,000 scholarship from the American Cancer Society (ACS) to complete her master's degree in nursing.
Cherry, who is currently enrolled in LaSalle University's Master of Public Health Nursing Program works as a cancer risk evaluation counselor, health educator and project manager for the FRAP program for women with increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer. Through the master's program her focus is epidemiology, health promotion and disease prevention, emphasizing cancer risk identification among diverse populations.
Cherry is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society, The International Society of Nurses in Genetics and Sigma Theta Tau, Kappa Delta Chapter.
Both her project management responsibilities and volunteer advocacy work relate to women at risk for ovarian cancer. She has published articles in the Oncology Nursing Society's book Cancer Prevention, Detection, and Control: A Nursing Perspective, and in Seminars in Oncology Nursing.
