Fox Chase Cancer Center Ranks as Top Cancer Center in Delaware Valley According to U.S. News & World Report, Among Elite Top 15 in Nation

PHILADELPHIA (July 18, 2003) — Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia ranks as the top cancer center in the Delaware Valley according to U.S. News & World Report. Fox Chase also is ranked among the elite top 15 cancer centers in the nation, ranking 13th for its outstanding cancer care, and is the 5th highest-ranking cancer center on the East Coast.

The 2003 edition of "America's Best Hospitals" is posted on the U.S. News & World Report web site (www.usnews.com). The list of best hospitals is in the July 28 print edition of U.S. News & World Report, which hits the newsstands July 21.

"People who live in the Philadelphia region are fortunate to have one of the nation's best cancer care facilities in their own backyard," said Dr. Robert C. Young, president of Fox Chase Cancer Center. "We all want and deserve the best when it comes to our health. Once again, Fox Chase has demonstrated that it leads the region and the country by providing cutting-edge technologies and research, and excellent hands-on care."

On the East Coast, the top five cancer centers listed are Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Fox Chase. U.S. News & World Report ranks hospitals based on an index that indicates overall quality of patient care for 17 different specialties.
