Fox Chase Cancer Center Nurses Take Top Honors-Vice President of Nursing Receives Award from Pennsylvania State Nurses Association-Director of Nursing Selected as 2005 Best Nurse Leader by Advance Magazine

PHILADELPHIA (November 5, 2005) -- Fox Chase Cancer Center's vice president of nursing and patient services, Joanne Hambleton, RN, MSN, CNA, of Warminster, Pa., has been selected by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association as recipient of its Administration-Management Award.

Anne Jadwin, MSN, RN, AOCN, CNA, director of nursing at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been selected by ADVANCE for Nurses newsmagazine as Best Nurse Leader for 2005 for the Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware regions.

Hambleton was honored for her strength of character, commitment and contributions to the provision of nursing care through her ability to lead other nurses. Hambleton has provided exemplary leadership, evident in the successful effort to attain the American Nurses Association's Magnet Nursing Services Recognition Award in 2000 and 2004 (four-year accreditations).

Hambleton was honored in September at the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association annual awards ceremony, which was co-sponsored by the Nursing Foundation of Pennsylvania. The event honored other award recipients for their outstanding contributions and accomplishments to the nursing profession as well as registered nurses and supporters of the nursing community.

Jadwin was nominated for the Best Nurse Leader award by clinical nurse specialist Deena Dell, RN, MSN, AOCN, BC, of Fox Chase Cancer Center.

Nominees were scored on the difference in patient outcomes, interpersonal relationships and professional development within their institution. Judges also looked at the effectiveness and efficiency of nursing units and the nominees' contributions in the work environment as a whole.

According to Dell, "Jadwin is a great leader who excels in the art of communication. She motivates. She promotes a culture of openness, innovation and learning. She is a highly ethical person, demonstrating credibility and integrity at all times."

"Jadwin... is the best out-of-the-box thinker around, supports and advocates for nursing, and promotes nurses in their professional endeavors. No wonder the judges felt she deserved the ADVANCE for Nurses 2005 Best Nurse Leader award," stated the Oct. 31, 2005 edition of the publication.
