Fox Chase Cancer Center Patients Have a Sweet Way of Expressing Gratitude

PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 10, 2006)- Robert and Linda Devlin, two loyal Fox Chase Cancer Center supporters, are expressing their gratitude to the Center by be holding a tasty fundraiser with Sweet Street Desserts of Reading, Pa., on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the Dollar Store on Township Line Road. With the help of Sweet Street Desserts and 98.1 WOGL-FM, the couple will be selling delicious treats like pies, cakes, dessert bars, brownies and cheesecakes to help raise money for Fox Chase's cancer research programs.

The Devlin's organized this event with Sweet Street Desserts as a way to thank the Fox Chase staff for taking great care of Robert when he was undergoing treatment there. Robert's head and neck cancer was diagnosed in 2004. He underwent surgery and radiation under the care of John A. Ridge, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S; Nicos Nicolaou, M.D.; and Jean Holland, R.N., M.S.N., A.O.C.N.

Then in 2005, Robert received a diagnosis of prostate cancer and was treated by David Chen, M.D. He is currently recovered from surgery and starting to feel more like himself again.

"We have a special spot in our hearts for Fox Chase," said Linda Devlin. "In other institutions, you are just a number, but here they are empathetic and make a tough situation better."
