Susan Echtermeyer accepts CIS Spirit Award

PHILADELPHIA (Nov. 13, 2007) — Susan Echtermeyer has been awarded the 2007 Spirit of the Cancer Information Service (CIS) Award for the Atlantic Region. Echtermeyer is the Atlantic Region's administrative coordinator and has been the backbone of the CIS office for over 16 years.

The Cancer Information Service is a program of the National Cancer Institute that provides the latest, most accurate information about cancer to patients, their families and the public. The Atlantic Region offices are on the campus at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.

The Spirit of CIS Award is a national award given to one person from each CIS regional office. It is awarded to the individual who best personifies the CIS spirit of caring and commitment. The recipient must routinely demonstrate this dedication through their attitude, contributions to the program and relations with other members of the staff.

Echtermeyer was selected in recognition of her extraordinary commitment and belief in the CIS mission.

"Susan represents the spirit of the CIS – dedication, commitment to quality, support to colleagues and a belief that our work is important to patients and the community," said Linda Fleisher, project director for the Cancer Information Service. "She is an integral part of our program, a wonderful colleague and friend."

For the past 30 years, the Cancer Information Service has provided the latest, most accurate information about cancer to patients, their families and the public through its 1-800 4 CANCER phone service. The Cancer Information Service equips people with the reliable, science-based information they need to become active participants in their own health care – from prevention, to early detection, to treatment and survivorship.
