Gloria and Edmund M. Dunn Establish Endowed Chair at Fox Chase Cancer Center

PHILADELPHIA (May 11, 2007) — Fox Chase Cancer Center will honor Edmund M. Dunn for his generous commitment to The Gloria and Edmund M. Dunn Endowed Chair in Thoracic Surgical Oncology during a special tea on Monday, May 14, at 3:30pm in the Fox Chase Cancer Center cafeteria.

Edmund Dunn and his late wife, Gloria, established the $1.5 million endowed chair for lung cancer research. Gloria Dunn died in 2005 from lung cancer. Formerly a long-time resident of Elkins Park, Edmund Dunn now lives in Bala Cynwyd. He is the founder and chief executive officer of Mutual Industries, Inc. in Philadelphia.

Melvyn Goldberg, vice chairman of surgery and chief of thoracic surgery will be the first to hold the chair. Goldberg joined Fox Chase in 1992 and established a multi-specialty program for the surgical management of thoracic cancers including surgical, medical and radiation oncologists who evaluate and treat patients with a special emphasis on innovative therapy.

Goldberg also serves as professor of surgery at Temple University School of Medicine and Hahnemann University Medical Center. He is board certified in general thoracic surgery. A member of many professional organizations, he is on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Oncology. He is the author of a number of research papers, book chapters and abstracts. Goldberg is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons.
