Konski Named First Chief Medical Officer for Fox Chase Cancer Center Partners

PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 4, 2007) Fox Chase Cancer Center has named radiation oncologist Andre Konski, M.D., M.B.A., M.A., chief medical officer of Fox Chase Cancer Center Partners, a position in which he will work to help expand the ability of Fox Chase and its community hospital partners to deliver care to the region at large.

In his new role, Konski will work with Paul Engstrom, M.D., Fox Chase Cancer Center senior vice president for extramural research, and Steven Cohen, M.D., associate medical director for Fox Chase Cancer Center Partners, to ensure that patients have access to the latest advances in cancer care, treatment and research. The three will work together to create a balance between clinical services delivered on campus and those provided at other locations and in collaboration with affiliates.

"Andre Konski offers the advantages of experience in freestanding radiation oncology centers plus important business and management skills," said Engstrom. "He will work closely with Fox Chase colleagues from various disciplines to build on existing and new cancer treatment efforts while addressing the individual strengths and needs of the different disease programs and clinical specialties."

In addition to his new role, Konski serves as clinical research director for radiation oncology and as clinical director for the Prostate Cancer Risk Assessment Program at Fox Chase.

Konski is active in the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), a national group sponsoring clinical trials using radiation therapy for cancer patients. He currently chairs the economics subcommittee of RTOG's committee on treatment outcomes. He also serves on RTOG's research strategy committee.

Konski joined Fox Chase in 2002. After receiving his B.A. from Saint Michael's College in Winooski, Vt., he earned his M.D. from New York Medical College. He interned and completed his residency in radiation oncology at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y., where he was chief radiation oncology resident from 1987 to 1988. During this time, he also held an American Cancer Society clinical oncology fellowship.

Later, at the University of Toledo, Konski earned his master's in business administration and his M.A. in economics. He received the University of Toledo College of Business Pacemaker Award and was elected to the Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma honorary societies in 1994.
