At Fox Chase Cancer Center, we believe that cancer care goes beyond medical diagnosis and treatment. We offer an array of support services for patients and their families.
Fox Chase Information Line
This toll-free phone line gives easy access to Fox Chase Cancer Center for patients and family members. Health educators from our Resource and Education Center at Fox Chase answer calls and can speak with you about your type of cancer, Fox Chase doctors, cancer treatment options and more. Educators are on-hand to answer calls Monday-Friday, 9 am - 5 pm. At other times, please leave a message and a nurse will return your call by the next business day.

Cancer Information Service
This free service is part of a nationwide communications network sponsored by the National Cancer Institute. Trained cancer education specialists answer questions about cancer risks, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and related issues Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. On request, free literature can be sent to your home. Available in English and Spanish.
Case Management Services
Fox Chase employs registered nurse case managers who specialize in cancer care to help patients who are admitted to the Hospital. The case manager works with health team members and you to assess, plan, coordinate and monitor your options and services, but does not provide direct patient care. As your advocate, the case manager works with your insurer to get quality care outcomes and plan services to prepare you for discharge.
Language Translation Services
1-888-FOX CHASE (1-888-369-2427)
Fox Chase Cancer Center offers non-English speaking patients language translation services at no cost to the patient, as follows:
- Language Line Services - Special phones are required for this service and they are available from the telephone operator, clinical manager's office in the Outpatient Department and in the clinical area at 8 Huntingdon Pike.
- Employee Translators - The Hospital Administration has an updated list of employees proficient in various languages that may be available to act as an interpreter.
- Sign Language - Social Services can arrange a sign language interpreter by calling 215-728-2668.
Nutrition Support Services
215-728-2597 or 215-728-4756
Nutrition Support Services provides nutrition assessment and evaluation for patients who are receiving specialized nutrition, enteral or parenteral feedings. The service is directed by a doctor who specializes in oncologic gastroenterology. Services are available to both inpatients and outpatients. Patients who are experiencing difficulty maintaining their weight during treatment, or have other nutrition questions or problems may make an appointment for an outpatient assessment.
Pain and Palliative Care Program (PPCP)
While palliative care and hospice services overlap in their patient-centered philosophy of care, hospice care is designed for terminally ill patients who are no longer seeking curative therapies and have a life expectancy of six months or less. Palliative care — pain management — is provided at any time during a person's illness, often starting at diagnosis. It is frequently part of a curative, life-prolonging treatment. One of the few such centers in the nation, the staff develops an individual care plan to provide the fastest pain relief in the most effective way with the fewest side effects. Nurses are on call at all times, and provide intensive education and support for patients. More
Spirituality is a key part of holistic care and all patients have the right of access to pastoral care. Through their ministry, chaplains offer compassion, hope and a healing presence to people during the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. More
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Fox Chase offers a full range of rehabilitation services to appropriate patients who are evaluated and referred for treatment. More
Registered respiratory therapists (RRT) and certified respiratory therapy technicians (CRTT), under the direction of a pulmonary physician, help patients minimize heart and lung disease symptoms and maximize their strength. Respiratory care services are also important in caring for the critically ill and providing valuable diagnostic information for doctors.
Social Work Services
This department offers professional counseling and support for patients and families in coping with cancer at all stages of diagnosis and treatment. Practical problems are also addressed like transportation, accommodations for family members, nursing home placement, insurance and financial concerns.
The Wellness Community
offers support services locally to people with cancer and their loved ones
Support groups are a free service to the community and are offered to Fox Chase Cancer Center patients, their families and to people receiving treatment elsewhere. More
