Helping Children of Cancer Patients

Fox Chase offers Kids' Night Out, a free 6-week program, for school-aged children whose parent or main caregiver has cancer. Social workers use play, games and art activities to help kids in the group identify and appropriately express complex feelings.

The children have the chance to meet with other kids who have similar concerns. They also will learn more about cancer and how to cope with the problems families often face when someone close has cancer.

Helping Parents Cope

A separate group for parents meets at the same time. This group offers the chance to meet with other parents and caregivers who are dealing with cancer. Group members may feel free to talk about issues concerning their children and their illness.

To register, please contact JoAnne Rufo, LSW, at 215-728-3017 or Lisa Etkins, LCSW, OSW-C, at 215-728-2666.

Through the Louise S. Mauran Book Fund, Fox Chase provides free books that offer support and guidance for families.
