Beth Chernoff, Council Secretary

I joined the Patient Family Advisory Council in December 2012, a time of transition as Fox Chase became part of Temple University Health System.  For years I had screening mammograms performed at Fox Chase prior to a cancer diagnosis, and when early-stage breast cancer was discovered in 2010, there was never any question where I would seek treatment.  Every single doctor on my team is a Philadelphia TopDoc!

In addition to my extraordinary team, I have met many other dedicated health practitioners, as well as a community of supportive fellow patients.  As I learned about cancer, I found the field of oncology so compelling that I returned to school to study health information administration and cancer registry management.  I joined the professional organization - Pennsylvania Health Information Management Association - and currently serve as chair of its Advocacy and Public Policy committee.

Several of us on Fox Chase’s PFAC are also involved in the newly-created Pennsylvania Hospital Engagement Network, helping member hospitals transition to a patient and family centered culture.  I welcome the opportunity to advance the mission of our own institution’s advisory council, and that of councils statewide.
