James L Helstrom, MD, MBA

To me, anesthesiology is one of the most challenging fields in medicine.
It often combines intense interpersonal interactions with complex physiology and very difficult surgical procedures. We, as anesthesiologists, often need to meet patients on the day of surgery, quickly inspire trust, sort through an often complicated medical history, and manage a safe procedure while at the same time allowing for minimal patient discomfort post-operatively.
