Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

ACRFox Chase Cancer Center has been named a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for mammography, breast ultrasound, ultrasound-guided biopsy, and stereotactic biopsy. This designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that achieve excellence by seeking and earning accreditation in all of the ACR's voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.

Colon Screening and Virtual Colon Screening

CT image of a healthy colon

Under certain conditions, "Virtual" Colonoscopy may be safer for some patients.

For people at age 50 or older, screening to prevent colon cancer should be part of their routine healthcare. For people with higher risks for colon cancer, such as having a family history of colon cancer or personal history of certain types of cancer, screening may start at an earlier age.

Under certain conditions, CT Colonography ("Virtual Colonoscopy") may be safer for some patients: those patients who require blood thinners or patients with multiple medical conditions. Also, if a conventional colonoscopy has been attempted but could not visualize the entire colon or was incomplete, Fox Chase Diagnostic Imaging can step in with CT Colonography, a new way to examine the colon without requiring an anesthetic.

Procedures

  • Thoracentesis: drain fluid from the chest with ultrasound guidance
  • Biopsies: use CT or ultrasound guidance to sample tissue from lung nodules, lymph nodes, breast, kidney, and liver for minimally invasive diagnosis

Interventional Radiology

Interventional radiology is minimally-invasive, targeted treatment performed using imaging guidance. The procedures often replace open surgical procedures. Procedures are performed in an interventional suite, rather than an operating room, thus eliminating the need for general anesthesia.

There are fewer risks involved and, typically, a reduced hospitalization time for patients.

Our Interventional Radiologists place ports and PICC lines, percutaneous catheters for the kidney and gallbladder, gastrostomy tubes, IVC filters and perform angiography for diagnosis and treatment.

An interventional radiologist performs procedures to treat problems in the arteries, kidneys, liver and other internal organs that might otherwise be treated by surgery. At Fox Chase, we specialize in chemoembolization, a procedure that allows more efficient delivery of cancer-fighting drugs directly to the tumor site via a catheter.
