As senior vice president for medical science at Fox Chase Cancer Center, I oversee all of the Center's patient care, clinical research and medical science laboratory research.

My research focuses on the development of new treatments for ovarian cancer. Clinical and laboratory research has made a difference for patients with ovarian cancer, but more needs to be done.

I encourage patients to consider participation in clinical trials. I assure them that our recommendations will be based upon the best possible treatment that is individualized for each patient's circumstances.

A multispecialty approach is often the best way to manage ovarian cancer, combining surgery, chemotherapy and novel treatment methods.

I was the proud recipient of the 25th Annual Bristol-Myers Squibb Award for Distinguished Achievement in Cancer Research (shared with Robert C. Young, MD), the 1990 Cancer Research Award from the Milken Family Medical Foundation and the 9th Claude Jacquillat Award in Clinical Research.

As an author, I have served on numerous editorial boards, including those of the International Journal of Gynecological Cancer, International Journal of Oncology, Cancer Research, Cancer Investigation, Journal of Experimental Therapeutics and Oncology and Clinical Cancer Research.

I have served as a member of the Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee of the Food and Drug Administration (1992-1996), chaired ASCO's Cancer Research Committee and am chair-elect of ASCO's Cancer Communications Committee.
