My career in medical oncology began with a clinical specialty of lymphoma and ovarian cancer. After many years working with patients, I decided to take a more active leadership role in cancer care. In 1989, I was appointed president and CEO of Fox Chase Cancer Center. After 18 years in this position, I am taking on a new role as chancellor at the Center. In this new post, I will direct a variety of local, regional and national initiatives important to our cancer center as well as the National Cancer Institute.
Reporting to the president and working with the board of directors and senior leadership, I will lead several efforts. These include serving as the chairman of the Board of Scientific Advisors of the National Cancer Institute and advocating for Fox Chase Cancer Center both at the national and state levels. I will continue to work with institutional leaders in the completion of the Cancer Research Pavilion and expansion projects at Fox Chase. Finally, I plan to work with donors and members of the institutional advancement team to complete the Center's Centennial Campaign.
I am proud of my accomplishments at Fox Chase, specifically building the Research Institute for Cancer Prevention. I am honored to learn that the Cancer Prevention Pavilion, which opened in January 2000, will be officially named the "Robert C. Young, MD, Pavilion for Cancer Research."
Through the generosity of our board member, Margot Wallace Keith, and her husband, Robert E. Keith Jr., The Robert C. Young, MD, Endowed Chair in Cancer Research was established. This chair will help stimulate innovative research leading to novel cancer treatments, and diagnostic and prevention techniques.
