Margot Sweed, CRNP, MSN, APRN-BC

I joined the nursing staff at Fox Chase Cancer in 1996 as a surgical clinical nurse specialist. I worked primarily with thoracic (lung and esophageal) and head and neck cancer patients. In that role, I provided nursing education, participated in research and developed pathway/standards and coverage for the Nutrition Support Service.
After 2 years, I had the unique opportunity to collaborate with gastrointestinal medical oncologists in the medical management of patients with upper and lower gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. Our practice works with new and follow-up patients. In my current role as a nurse pracitioner, I help patients manage symptoms and side effects of their disease.
I am a strong supporter of patient and family communication as we care for our patients. It is extremely important for our patients and their families to understand what is happening during each phase during the continuum of care. Preserving function is a top priority for all of us at Fox Chase, especially those who work with GI patients. I help patients optimize their quality of life as they face treatment, which may impact their lifestyle.
