I chose to become a Physician Assistant for many reasons, one of which is for the hands-on involvement with patient care. It is very rewarding to know that I help to make a difference for patients on a daily basis, especially when they are dealing with the emotional aspects of having a cancer diagnosis. Working in reconstructive plastic surgery, I love the fact that we are able to give patients a whole new outlook on life, which in turn helps them better deal with their diagnosis.

I chose Fox Chase Cancer Center for its notable reputation of making cancer history. Prior to working at Fox Chase, I spent some time down at MD Anderson Cancer Center, which has been quoted as the #1 Cancer Center in the world. Although Fox Chase is a much smaller institution, its standards are comparable to that of MD Anderson. At times, it is a great feeling to know that I am working at an institution that competes with the top cancer center in the world.

Over the years, I have lost several family members to cancer, which is why I chose to specialize in the field of surgical oncology. I know how hard it is to hear the word "cancer," not only to the patient, but to close family members as well. Being that I have had a personal connection to the disease makes it easier to really understand what a patient and their family is going through. It is very satisfying to be able to establish a special bond with patients very early on, which in turn enables them to really trust that I will help to give them the best care possible.
