Dr. Yun Shin Chun is Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgical Oncology and specializes in diseases of the liver, pancreas, and biliary tract. She earned her undergraduate degree from Harvard University in French Studies and an MD from New York Medical College. She completed training in general surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota, followed by a research fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where she studied novel methods to treat hepatobiliary cancers. She completed a surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, where she focused on hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery.

She was a member of the American Joint Committee on Cancer Hepatobiliary Task Force for the 7th Edition of the Manual for Staging Cancer. She was the recipient of the 2011 Karen and Josef E. Fischer International Traveling Fellowship Award for Surgeons in Academic Practice and traveled to premier hepatobiliary centers in South Korea and Japan. Dr. Chun has been an invited speaker at national meetings, including the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (AHPBA) and Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. She served on the planning committee of the AHPBA-Sponsored Consensus Conference on the Multidisciplinary Treatment of Colorectal Liver Metastases [PDF].

Dr. Chun’s clinical research focuses on improving outcomes in patients with cancers of the liver, bile duct, and pancreas. She is keenly interested in the association between diet and liver diseases, including fatty liver and potential progression to cirrhosis and/or liver cancer. She strongly believes that patients benefit from the close collaboration among expert specialists at Fox Chase Cancer Center, to provide the best multidisciplinary care tailored for each individual patient.
