Prevention Screening
Fox Chase Cancer Center offers a Full Range of Traditional and Advanced Screening Options
Fox Chase Cancer Center's reputation for quality cancer treatment also includes an outstanding program for prevention assessment and screening examinations.
Preventive care such as screening tests and physical examinations may or may not be covered by an individual's health insurance. A referral from your physician may be required for insurance purposes. This should not be a barrier to making that initial call.
Colon Screening
For people at age 50 or older, screening to prevent colon cancer should be part of their routine healthcare. For people with higher risks for colon cancer, such as having a family history of colon cancer or personal history of certain types of cancer, screening may start at an earlier age.
At Fox Chase, our gastroenterologists are very experienced at performing high-quality colonoscopy. We not only perform routine screening procedures on our patients, but also serve as a second-opinion center for difficult colonoscopies referred by other facilities.
The length of the procedure itself on average is between 20-30 minutes, depending on what we need to do inside the colon (polypectomy, additional cleaning out the colon, ablative therapy, etc). We have simplified the colon cleansing protocol in order to make the task more palatable for our patients. Our staff offer detailed and clear instructions to patients by phone or in person.

Mammography
While many people in the area are familiar with Fox Chase Cancer Center's Mammography Van, it's important to remember that full mammography services are always available at the Center.
Digital Mammography
This new technology gives women state-of-the-art screenings, with clearer pictures that can be reviewed quickly. Recent studies have shown that digital mammography is better than traditional film mammography in detecting breast cancer in women under the age of 50 and with dense breasts.
Fox Chase Cancer Center's mobile mammography van, which provides easy and convenient mammography screenings for women at their place of work, now offers digital mammography.
