Risk Assessment and Prevention Registry
With your written consent information about your family history of cancer, personal and medical history is stored in a protected database. Researchers use the information to find those factors that increase the risk for cancer and better ways to prevent the disease.
In collaboration with Fox Chase geneticist Andrew Godwin, PhD, we continue to study mutations in BRCA1, BRCA2 and other cancer-related genes. As members of the Human Genome Studies Consortium, we are exploring new directions in genetic risk assessment.
Families Understanding Risk
This study is targeted to relatives of individuals who test positive for a BRCA1/2 genetic alteration. Relatives would be asked to complete two sets of surveys, receive an educational CD and booklet and possibly participate in a telephone counseling session.

Investigation of the Biology of Ovarian Fibroblasts and Surface
This study is for women scheduled to have prophylactic removal of the ovaries. Ovarian tissue will be examined to better understand the biology of the cells and their response to drugs which may prevent ovarian cancer.

Study of Chemoprevention Agent for Ovarian Carcinoma
Women who have undergone genetic risk counseling and have decided with their physician to have their ovaries surgically removed may take a medication prior to surgery to see if it will alter or block cancer causing processes in the ovary.

Biosample Repository – Banking your blood and tissue
Men and women interested in donating personal health history information and blood for ongoing cancer research may participate. With written consent, individuals having an operation or procedure at Fox Chase Cancer Center have blood or tissue banked in the Biosample Repository. Researchers use the samples from the repository to find ways to diagnose, prevent and treat cancer.
