Fox Chase & Genentech Partner to Support Translational Research Fellow
A new partnership between Fox Chase Cancer Center and Genentech, a leading biotechnology company, is addressing a critical problem within translational cancer research—the lack of potential physicianscientist trainees interested in cancer-related research careers.
The partnership will tackle this problem by establishing a fellowship program focused on the sustained engagement of physician-scientists in laboratory-based translational research.
The Genentech Scholars Program at Fox Chase will provide indepth training in research for three years to an MD or MD/PhD with a demonstrated strong interest in and ability to do investigative laboratory and/or clinical research. The program will provide the trainee with exposure to critical laboratory methodology and concepts necessary to conduct novel individual research projects.
The research could take the form of basic science bench research, epidemiology or hypothesisdriven clinical research. The fellow will receive a mentor from one of Fox Chase's basic, medical or population science divisions.
Elizabeth Henske, MD, a senior member with dual appointments in the medical and population science divisions at Fox Chase, will lead the program.
