Function

The Biochemistry and Biotechnology Facility (BBF) makes available to Fox Chase investigators five state-of-the-art services that are connected to each other in research applications. Through BBF, translational research projects gain instant access to equipment, manpower, and expertise in cutting edge technologies and new investigators can quickly get up to speed.

  • DNA Synthesis provides uniformly high quality DNA, RNA, and modified oligonucleotides, and the assembly of designer genes. Because of quality control, oligonucleotides from BBF have never been a variable in the users' experiments.
  • The full-service Real-time PCR facility provides highly accurate quantitation of nucleic acid levels in samples.
  • The BBF provides access to modern Mass Spectrometry. Services include high sensitivity protein analysis and identification, partial peptide sequencing, characterization of post-translational modifications, DNA analysis, drug chemistry, and enzyme characterization.
  • Proteomic services by BBF provide expertise in 2D gel resolution of proteins, image acquisition and automated analysis. Interesting protein spots selected are used for protein identification with the assistance of robotics and state of the art mass spectrometers. Proteomic projects are coordinated with the HPLC service
  • The HPLC service provides expert protein purification. Proteins available in microgram quantities are purified or analyzed using the FPLC/SMART chromatography systems.
