Function

Expression Microarray provides global gene expression solutions to Fox Chase Cancer Center investigators, as well as researchers from other institutions, using the Agilent and Affymetrix systems. The basic service includes RNA sample labeling, hybridization, scanning and data processing. In collaboration with the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics facility, Expression Microarray assists investigators with data analysis and management.

Description

The available platforms for gene expression analysis include the Affymetrix GeneChip system and the Agilent SureHyb microarray solutions. Both systems are capable of performing global gene expression profiling for a variety of species such as human, mouse, rat and many others. Services include RNA sample labeling, hybridization and scanning on a first come, first served basis. All microarray raw data are archived into a central database management system, Genedirector from Biodiscovery, for data storage and retrieval. In addition, miRNA expression analysis using Agilent 8x15k format of microarray is also available to investigators. This is a highly specific and sensitive platform for global miRNA profiling. Only 100 ng of total RNA is required for the process. Other services provided by Expression Microarray include RNA isolation, custom array design and printing, as well as technical training. The facility is equipped with the Omnigrid-100 microarrayer and Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer for RNA quality control assay. The Affymetrix GCOS, Agilent Feature Extraction and the GeneDirector software package from BioDiscovery are used for microarray data processing and management. Expression Microarray coordinates with the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics facility for further data statistical analysis, gene ontology and pathway analysis.
