Research Interests
Dr. Coups' primary area of research focuses on understanding and promoting health-related behaviors among cancer survivors. His research in this area has included documenting the prevalence of health behaviors among survivors of varying cancers, identifying the prevalence and correlates of physical activity among lung cancer survivors, and testing the feasibility of an internet-based weight loss intervention for colorectal cancer survivors. His current research is funded by grants from the National Cancer Institute and the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Dr. Coups' secondary area of research focuses on identifying the prevalence, patterns, and correlates of behavioral risk factors for cancer among the general adult population. The goal of Dr. Coups' research program is to develop innovative, theory-driven health behavior interventions that enhance the quality and quantity of life of cancer survivors and those at risk for cancer.
Dr. Coups' collaborative studies include:
- Multiple Behavioral Risk Factors for Colorectal Cancer and Colorectal Cancer Screening Status
- Knowledge of Colon Cancer Screening in a National Probability Sample in the United States
- Time Preferences and Preventive Health Behavior
- Awareness of the Role of Physical Activity in Colon Cancer Prevention
- Multiple Skin Cancer Risk Behaviors in the U.S. Population
