Research Interests
- Dr. Lazev's research has focused on special populations, including pregnant/postpartum women, low-income and minority populations, college students, persons living with HIV/AIDS, and cancer patients. Her research has been funded by the American Lung Association, the American Cancer Society, and the American Society of Preventive Oncology/Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation.

Research Interests
- Dr. Min's research interest is in the areas of ontology construction and its applications in bioinformatics, natural language processing (NLP), medical terminologies, and data warehousing. She has developed structural methodologies for auditing medical terminologies, e.g., UMLS, NCI Thesaurus, and SNOMED. She has also constructed a prostate cancer ontology that successfully integrates two database systems. She is currently exploring the expansion of applications of ontology and other computer science technologies to both the cancer clinic and cancer research.

Research Interests
- Dr. Shapiro's research focuses on understanding the causes of cancer-related cognitive change and the impact of these cognitive difficulties on quality of life. A goal of hers is to implement a systematic program of research examining psychosocial, biological, and clinical factors that contribute to adverse changes in cognitive function, and to develop interventions to improve cognitive outcomes and quality of life for patients and survivors. Dr. Shapiro's research has been funded by the Department of Defense and the National Cancer Institute.

- Dr. Sharp comes to FCCC with a wide breadth of clinical and research experience including scale development and validation, psychosocial interventions and outcomes, clinical trial design, clinical decision-making, information processing, and evaluation of assessment methodologies. Additionally, he is a consultant on the use of behavioral assessments in clinical trials including measures of clinical severity, quality of life, and suicide ideation and behavior. He also has extensive experience in training and evaluating clinicians in the administration of rating scales and diagnostic interviews.

Research Interests
- The Behavioral Research Core Facility (BRCF) helps peer-reviewed investigators apply innovative theory-driven behavioral and social science research designs, measurements, data collection techniques, and analytic methods into the planning, implementation, and dissemination of FCCC research endeavors. Specifically, the BRCF works with investigators to facilitate psychosocial assessment and intervention research in the areas of: 1) adaptation, stress and coping, quality of life, and quality of care; 2) decision making (e.g., about cancer risk assessment and genetic testing, risk reduction and treatment options, and clinical trial participation); 3) adherence to prevention, screening, diagnostic, treatment, and follow-up recommendations; and 4) behavioral lifestyle changes (e.g., smoking cessation). BRCF services span all study phases, ranging from initial research concepts to active input and involvement in design, development, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination.
