Decision Science and Health Informatics Curriculum

Lecture 1: "Clinical Decision Making" by J. Robert Beck, MD and Yu-Ning Wong, MD

Topics: Design of normative decision making models; meta-analysis; incorporation of quality of life and patient preferences; structural and probabilistic sensitivity analysis; use of decision making software tools.

Lecture 2: "Health Data and Data Mining" by Eric Ross, PhD and J. Robert Beck, MD

Topics: Clinical and specialized information systems; formulation of analytical queries; techniques in data mining applied to text, structured, and image data; outcomes analysis.

Learning Objectives: At the completion of this set of presentations, the trainee will be able to evaluate critically the literature on patient and clinical decision making and health informatics; be conversant with techniques for the analysis of large heterogeneous data sets; and be able to supervise the design of a modeling or database study for clinical or behavioral problems in health.
