The Student Scientist programs are a great opportunity, but very challenging. We need to know as much as possible about each student to select those who will be successful and match them well with a mentor scientist. Please be honest and rigorous, as your knowledge of the student is our best source of information about them!

How long have you known this student?

How well do you know the student?

Please circle the response that most accurately describes your student.

  1. As a Student Scientist, I predict this student would
    • have a good learning experience, but not necessarily produce anything of value to the lab.
    • produce some preliminary data that could be of use to the lab.
    • produce at least some publication quality data on her/his own.
  2. In a research lab at Fox Chase Cancer Center, this student would be capable of
    • doing experiments under close supervision.
    • learning one or two techniques she/he can do with minimal supervision.
    • performing experiments independently after doing them once or twice with supervision.
  3. In terms of time spent working in the lab, this student would
    • meet the minimum time requirements of four hours per week after school and 8 weeks full time in Summer 2009 for an FCCC Student Scientist, and the same requirement for both 2008-09 and 2009-10 for a CURE Student Scientist.
    • occasionally stay late or come in extra days to complete an experiment.
    • work as many hours as possible on her/his project.
  4. I would describe this student as
    • one who could really benefit from this opportunity—she/he is bright and motivated but has some challenges to overcome (first generation to go to college, little exposure to science, etc.)
    • a typical Student Scientist--A's in science and math, some science fair experience, bright and motivated.
    • the best and brightest, a truly exceptional student.
