Applications due March 7, 2008!
Changes this year:
- Please have students apply by March 7, 2008
- Funding is available for five CURE Student Scientists from 2008-2009 through the 2009-2010 school year. The stipend for CURE Student Scientists is $3374 for 2008-09 and $3475 for 2009-10.
- There currently is no stipend for FCCC Student Scientists but we continue to look for funding.
- Please continue to select students for both programs who have the characteristics to succeed:
- Personal qualities: mature, dependable, able to work independently, respectful
- Interest: enthusiastic about the opportunity, strong interest in research
- Motivation: considering a career in science or medicine (NOT filling up their resume)
- Ability: good grades, able to handle the extra work and time commitment, learn new things quickly
- Please encourage applications from qualified minority students.
What you need to do:
- Give out applications to teachers and/or students in your school.
- Collect all applications, check for completeness, and select your school's best students to submit.
- Send to Holly Gillin (program secretary) at Fox Chase Cancer Center, 333 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111 or Fax 215-728-3574 (this is a group fax; please include Holly Gillin's name on the cover page) no later than March 7, 2008:
- a list of your school's applicants
- rank the applicants - comments are helpful!
- all completed applications
- All applications should include:
- application form completely filled out (including contact information for teacher willing to discuss student)
- current and two previous years' transcripts
- signed Student Requirements form for FCCC or CURE Student Scientist, as appropriate
- Teacher Description of Student form completed by teacher
- letter of recommendation
