The experimental histopathology service (EHS) assists Fox Chase investigators in research projects that require histological and cytological processing and evaluation. In addition to routine processing of tissues and cells, we help researchers with special stains, enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and autoradiography. We also collaborate with the laboratory animal facility (LAF) in the quality control program developed to ensure the good health of all laboratory animals. The specific services provided are:

Preparation of tissues for routine histopathological or cytological evaluation that involves embedding in paraffin or plastics, preparation of tissue sections, routine staining of tissues (hematoxylin-eosin), special staining of tissue sections (e.g., PAS or trichromes), and other cytological techniques (e.g., PAP or hematological).
Preparation of tissues for nonroutine histological or histopathological evaluation such as embedding in plastics, frozen sections, enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and autoradiography.
Histopathological evaluation of cell or tissue preparations.
Microphotography, using Polaroid and 35 mm film (black & white and color).
