Macintosh Computers and PDFs
The Problem
Some PDFs will not display properly on Preview. Instead, they will show an error message that you need to download the latest version of Adobe® Reader even though you have the latest version. Also, when using a browser other than Safari (such as Firefox), links to specific pages of PDFs will not work. The PDF will open at the first page instead of the indicated page.
Recommendations
The best way to view PDFs on a Mac is to use Safari 2.0.4 or later and Adobe® Reader 8.1 or later. Be sure to correctly identify your computer as Intel or Power PC (PPC) when downloading Adobe® Reader. This information can be found in the "Processor" section of "About This Mac." (Click on the apple icon in the upper left of your screen and select the first menu item.)
