Joseph Buglak lives close to Fox Chase Cancer Center in nearby Abington, Pennsylvania. For years, Joe was aware of what Fox Chase had to offer, but never thought he might one day require its services himself. He was also aware of a spot on his leg, but did not think it was anything serious.
A dermatologist took one look at the spot and expressed concern to Joe. "He wanted to take a biopsy," shared Joe, who agreed with his suggestion.
When the biopsy results came back positive for melanoma, Joe was shocked. "I never thought it was cancer."
Joe, a maintenance supervisor at a nearby hospital, met with Richard Bleicher, MD, a surgical oncologist at Fox Chase who specializes in treating patients with melanoma as well as breast cancer. Joe felt very comfortable in Dr. Bleicher's care. When surgery was recommended to remove the cancerous tissue, Joe agreed right away.
"Everyone at Fox Chase was so nice."
"Dr. Bleicher was terrific," recalled Joe. "Everyone at Fox Chase was so nice. I felt like they really cared about me and my well-being." The surgery was successful and after a short recovery, Joe was back at work.
Joe returns to Fox Chase periodically for check ups. In his free time, Joe enjoys playing on several softball leagues with his buddies. He explained, "I feel great today and am fortunate that I had such good care at Fox Chase."
