Skin Biopsy

Melanoma is generally diagnosed through a biopsy. After numbing the skin with a local anesthetic, a small sample of tissue is taken from the area. In some cases, the entire growth is removed. A skin cancer specialist will look at the tissue under a microscope to see if it is skin cancer.

If you have already had a skin biopsy done by your primary care doctor or dermatologist, a Fox Chase melanoma specialist can review your biopsy and recommend treatment options.
