Merging the capabilities of a transrectal probe and MRI, the ExactVu™ micro-ultrasound technology provides a much higher image resolution (nearly 300% higher) than typical ultrasound technology used for identifying prostate lesions.
During this outpatient test, a probe is placed in the rectum and allows the urologist to see the architecture of the prostate in great detail. This in turn allows your care team to identify any concerning lesions and, if needed, take targeted biopsies.
Micro-ultrasound enables physicians to perform more accurate biopsies and prevents unnecessary biopsies by allowing for a complete visual assessment of the patient’s prostate.
While research has shown that micro-ultrasound and MRI offer the same diagnostic accuracy, micro-ultrasound is a better option for patients who are not eligible for an MRI (specifically if they are claustrophobic, have a pacemaker, or do not receive insurance coverage for the test).
Micro-ultrasound can also be used for patients who are diagnosed with prostate cancer and choose active surveillance over immediate treatment. In these cases, this technology allows physicians to follow the cancer over time and monitor any changes or growth.
